Today is my beautiful friend Kelly Kent's birthday and to celebrate, she is having a Blog Hop Party with a group of her papercrafting friends. I am really happy to be part of this group and share my creation for her birthday. Happy Birthday Kelly, hope you are having a wonderful day and enjoy seeing what we have created for you.
You may have arrived from seeing the very talented Sharon Dalton's fabulous creation, but if you started here, click the 'Next' button at the bottom of this post to continue hopping.
This year I decided to create a very 'on trend' Floating Frame card for Kelly's birthday. In April I attended Stampin'Up's three day convention in Auckland called OnStage.. I was gifted a pack of Glad Press 'n Seal by my lovely friend Marilyn Meadows and since I got back I have made several cards using this technique. For Kelly's card I decided to use the Bold Butterfly die to cut the 'frame'.
I first sponged a sheet of Whisper White cardstock with several bright colours and then stamped the butterflies in black Memento ink with stamps from the Butterfly Gala stamp set.
I punched a whole lot of large and small butterflies with the Butterfly Duet Punch. I placed these on my card base making sure I kept them all as close as possible.
I then placed a piece of Press 'n Seal over the pieces and pressed down firmly. Next I trimmed the excess all the way around my card base before carefully removing it so that I was just left with the punched pieces attached to the Press 'n Seal.
The butterfly shape was then die cut using my Big Shot.
I put Dimensionals on all the butterfly pieces and lined up the card base over these and pressed firmly to adhere all the pieces to the card front.
Finaly, I carefully removed the Press 'n Seal.
I was originally inspired by Wendy Lee who used Whisper White cardstock for the 'floating frame' with a rectangle frame but Basic Black cardstock for the second card using the cut-out.

I liked the black cardstock version much better so decided to make both my card bases black.
