For this week's Tips & Techniques via Zoom, I demonstrated the Using Die-Cuts as Stencils technique to create a background. This is a simple technique which gives a great alternative to using printed paper as background layers for your cards. The technique works particularly well with detailed dies.
For my demonstration I decided to use the full page detailed die from the Butterfly Beauty die set. Alternatively you could use a smaller die such as a poppy bloom from the Poppy Moments die set or the rose bloom from the Wild Rose die set and move them around to cover your background layer.
For this technique you will need a piece of Whisper White cardstock cut to your desired layer size, a piece of scrap Whisper White cardstock to cut out the die, sponge daubers and ink.

Place the die-cut on your Whisper White cardstock layer and use a couple of small pieces of Washi Tape to hold it in place.
Use a dauber to sponge very lightly in a circular movement over the cardstock starting at the outside edge and working over the die stencil. Tap the dauber over the small, very detailed parts of the stencil to ensure the ink from the dauber reaches the cardstock. Move the Washi Tape around until the whole stencil has been sponged.
The key to achieving a good result is to lightly sponge the whole background and then slowly go over the sponging to build the colour up to the desired intensity.
Once I had finished sponging, I cut out the largest butterfly from the stencil, spritzed it with Champagne Mist Shimmer Paint and adhered it to my background with a glue dot.
I used Wink Of Stella to add a little sheen to the 'white' butterflies.
The stencilled background was layered onto a piece of Whisper White cardstock which was then layered onto the Pretty Peacock card base. To finish my card I added Noble Peacock Rhinestones and Basic Rhinestones to the butterflies.

Pretty Peacock card base 12cms x 14.85cms scored at 10.5cms
Whisper White layer 9.9cms x 14.25cms
Whisper White for stencilled background 9.6cms x 13.85cms
