Technique - Retiform Stamping

For this week's Tips & Techniques via Zoom, I demonstrated the Retiform stamping technique to create a 'collage' effect. This is a simple technique which produces different results each time so no two cards are ever the same. The technique can be used with just one stamp set which has many images or several stamp sets with similar themes.

For my demonstration I decided to do a monocolour collage using Night Of Navy ink and the Sailing Home stamp set which has a wide variety of images. I layered the finished Retiform collage onto a Night of Navy card base and finished off by adding a metal helm from the Sail Away Trinkets.

For this technique you will need a piece of Whisper White cardstock to stamp (cut to your desired layer size), a piece of scrap cardstock or cardboard for sponging, Sticky Notes, a sponge or dauber and ink.

Step 1
I like to stamp my sentiment first so I can work my grids around it.
Step 2
Decide where you want the first section to be and cover with the piece of scrap cardstock. Sponge along the edge of the scrap to form the 'grid line' using more colour along the edge and gradually becoming lighter.
Step 3
Move the scrap piece to where you want to create a new grid and sponge along the edge as in step 2.

Step 4
Continue as in steps 2 and 3 until all grids have been formed.

Step 5
Now use sticky notes to mask around the area you wish to stamp an image. Place the sticky note very slightly outside the grid line so that your image will stamp along the line.

Step 6
Continue as in step 5 until all grids have stamped images. At this point you can lightly sponge around the edges of your layer and lightly add any sponging
