Technique - Shadow Stamping With Bleach

While I am not able to hold our fortnightly classes in person, I am holding them every other week via Zoom and in the weeks in between we have a Zoom catch-up where we can show what we have been making and I demonstrate a technique which we have not previously done in class.

This week's technique was Shadow Stamping With Bleach.

For my card I used the following materials:
Basic Black cardstock 29.7 cms x 10.5cms scored at 14.85cms
Whisper White cardstock 9.7cms x 14cms
Melon Mambo cardstock 7.2cms x 9cms
Basic Black cardstock 7.5cms x 9.3cms
Best Dressed Designer Series Paper 3.6cms x 14cms
Beautiful You stamp set
Subtle embossing folder
Memento Tuxedo Black ink pad
Noble Peacock Rhinestones

I first stamped the sentiment on the Whisper White cardstock and then dry embossed the cardstock with the 'Subtle' embossing folder. I then adhered it to the Basic Black card base.
I adhered the Designer Series Paper to the Whisper White layer.
I stamped the image on Melon Mambo cardstock first with bleach and then with Memento Tuxedo Black ink as described below.
This was then adhered to the Basic Black layer and attached to the card front with Dimensionals.
To finish off my card I added some of the pink Rhinestones.

Shadow Stamping With Bleach Technique
This technique is easy to do with a stamp positioning tool such as the Stamparatus.

Step 1
Place the cardstock to be stamped in the the Stamparatus and line it up approx. 1mm inside the gridline as shown

Step 2
Position your stamp on the piece of cardstock and pick up with the Stamparatus plate. Moisten an un-inked Stampin' Spot with some household bleach (you are basically creating an ink pad with bleach instead of ink) and apply to your stamp.

If you don't have any ink spots, you can moisten a wipe with bleach and use this to wet your stamp. NOTE: You will need to wear protective gloves for this method

Step 3
Lower the stamp onto your cardstock and press and hold for about a minute so that the bleach can penetrate the cardstock.
NOTE: clean your stamp immediately with a Shammy to remove any bleach residue from the stamp!

Step 4
Now move the piece of cardstock to the left so that it lines up with the gridline.

Step 5
Ink your stamp with Memento Tuxedo Black and lower the stamp onto your cardstock.

The black outline is now just inside the bleached outline creating a kind of aura or shadow effect
